Miss Universe 2014 National Costumes

MISS UNIVERSE 2014 NATIONAL COSTUMES
Drumroll ladies and gents! Here comes the MU season! As early as the MUO confirmed the date and venue of the 63rd Miss Universe pageant, let’s kick off with this year’s national costumes of our candidates! Some of these are rumored-to-be and some are confirmed to be the candidates’  official costume. Let’s see how the parade of nations be festive with these costumes. We’ll be updating this list every single day until January as we are still waiting for other countries to announce their costumes. Enjoy!

MISS NICARAGUA
Marline Barberena
The representative of Nicaragua in Miss Universe 2014 is wearing this very festive and colorful feather-full vivacious costume. It kinda looks like last year’s costume (which eventually won) but we think this won’t win this year. But this costume is very well laid out.

MISS JAMAICA

Kaci Fennellmira

Bring the carnival to Doral and whip those hips Kaci Fennell! And oh, don’t get us started with that ABStatic! #NationalCostume #Jamaica #MissUniverse2014

MISS GUATEMALA

Ana Montúfar Urrutiamira

Oh gee! There’s so much excitement this year! We’re seeing a lot of great costumes! This is one of the best we guess. Swoon!

MISS INDONESIA

Elvira Devinamira

“The Chronicle of Borobudur” by Dinand Fariz (JFC). This costume best represents an Asian code of culture; with its colors and texture, the intricate details and the embellishments. Can Indonesia maintain the title for the county with the most Best in National Costume Awards received this year? We do hope so. Because this costume shouts IMPECCABLE! It is one of the best thus far!

MISS PARAGUAY

Sally Jara Dávalosmira

And here’s a sneak peek of Miss Paraguay’s national costume with a “mother jungle” theme. We think this is going to be bee’s knees too!.

MISS MEXICO

Josselyn Garcigliamira

Now this is what national costume is all about! How gorgeously done! This is absolutely stunning! The whole ensemble is really sick! We luurrrvvveeeee it!.

divider

MISS VENEZUELA

Migbellis Castellanosmira

Finally! We got a hold of Miss Venezuela’s CONFIRMED national costume. This costume is inspired from the country’s national tree “araguaney”. Btw, this is just fitting so it isn’t done yet. This is one thing we like about Venezuela. They are year by year creative in their national costumes. Lurrrvvveee this!

MISS TURKS AND CAICOS

Shanice Williams

Whew! We’re gobsmacked! Chilly and sassy, festive and uber sexy! This is just a sneak peek of what Shanice will wear. With her amazing figure right now, we know she will nail this! Swear!

divider

MISS ECUADOR

Alejandra Argudomira

Nothing new in the plate. More of like what we expect from a Latina representative. But to be honest, this looks better than last year’s. There’s just something missing on its headdress, but overall, we love the ethnic vibe on this one.

Photo credit goes to the real owner of the photo.

MISS RUSSIA

Yulia Alipovamira

“Here’s a sneak peek of Miss Russia’s national costume. The very distinct Russian royal costume. As always, we admire the beadworks and the effort put in to make this costume. This looks conventional and expected, but it’s undeniably GRAND!

MISS BAHAMAS
Tomacina Culmer
This costume was the one worn by Tomacina during the Miss Bahamas pageant and is rumored to be the same costume that she will wear in the Miss Universe finals. For what its worth, we think this wouldn’t look great on MU stage as the design is extremely typical in beauty pageants and this has been done multiple times. We just like the caribbean touch on it, which is also fitting to the country the costume represents.

divider

MISS AUSTRALIA
Tegan Martin
This is the official national costume of Miss Australia 2014 inspired by a Dreamtime sunset. The costume, created by emerging Victorian designer Caitlin Holstock, beat out three other designs, including a candy pink two-piece by Lorelee Prentice that would look more at home on a Victoria’s Secret runway. The winning look, which was decided on by the public and Sunrise viewers, comprises of an ochre colour bodice and skirt embellished with clay beading and native drawings. Seriously, Australia has lost its creative minds!

MISS BOLIVIA
Claudia Tavel
This costume is a little bit off for us because it doesn’t seem right at all. We’re not seeing the cultural diversity of Bolivia in this and what exactly it does represent. The icy-heavenly vibe seems okay-ish for us but with its representation…we’re not pretty sure.

divider

MISS COLOMBIA
Paulina Vega

This costume was actually the one Paulina wore during the national finals and for us this looked really good on her. However, it’s too simple for the national parade. As it was rumored to be the one worn by her in MU stage, we think the Miss Colombia Org MUST change this. They have to find something better than this. Knowing this country, they can do far better than this one.

MISS PANAMA
Yomatzy Hazlewood de la Rosa

Blimey! How AMAZEBALLS is this? Everything in this costume is divine!Kewl!

MISS DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
Kimberly Castillo

This national costume strikes a religious concept which is totally commendable for conveying such a touch. It embodies the strong religious background of the people from this country. It could have been a little bit more interesting if more convivial and creative details are added to the whole ensemble.

divider

MISS THAILAND
Pimbongkod Changkaew

This is the winner of Thailand’s national costume design contest to be worn by Pimbongkod Changkaew in Miss Universe 2014 pageant. This is dubbed as “The Shadow Play of Siam”.What do you guys think? The base color of black, and bronze, with a little bit of red touch is something new to the plate….getting out of gold this time is really refreshing. Not to mention the hand pieces that go well with the whole ensemble.

divider

MISS PERU
Jimena Espinoza Vecco

Kewl! How can the judges choose the best in national costume? Miss Peru’s going to be a killer too! OMG! Absobloodylootely difficult it is to choose!

divider

MISS POLAND
Marcela Chmielowska

Let’s get down to being simple in national costume, shall we? This has to be the real definition of the word “tedious”. #rollingeyes

divider

MISS PUERTO RICO
Gabriela Berrios

This is the sketch of Gabriela Berrios’s national costume which is dubbed as “Dancing Puerto Rican.” Honestly, it looks Spanish-isque for us; the fan and the ruffles? How could you not relate it to that famous Spanish dance? We just love the back details serving as the tail of the costume. We wish the ones who will make it could materialize the sketch well.

From the sketch, here comes the sewn one….which we may say a disappointment to the sketch. We did not see the flow and grace that we saw in the sketch. It didn’t look graceful and convivial.

divider

MISS IRELAND
Lisa Madden

This national costume of Ireland is named “The Celtic Warrior”. Don’t get us started with the very intricate details of it. It looks fab,but looks too much. There are lots going on in the costume and it lacks the focus on what it really is trying to convey. However, the materials used and the design itself is a step-up from Ireland’s boring national costumes in the past MU years.

divider

MISS CROATIA
Ivana Mišura

Is this really a national costume? What the heck is this thing? Is this some kind of a joke? Ugh!. Ivana! Werk girl! Werk!

divider

MISS BRAZIL
Melissa Gurgel

This looks completely festive and grand. We hope the finish-costume delivers the sketch well. Melissa will definitely kill the stage with this. There’s just one thing we’re tired about this. That painting-like stuff at the back. It’s like it’s been there for almost a decade now. C’mon Brazilians! Can you just find another design?

Here’s a sneak peek of Miss Brazil’s costume. It seems like most of the costumes this year are gonna have feathers all over it!

divider

MISS SWEDEN
Camilla Hansson

Simple and run-of-the-mill…boring! NEXT!

divider

MISS MALAYSIA
Sabrina Beneett

Another Asian costume upgrade! This costume is dubbed as the “Goddess of Kenyalang” inspired from the Hornbill Trail of Borneo. The way the colors and the feathers are ensemble, we could say that Carey Ng (ND of MUMO) is doing great so far. We think this costume can be one of the top 10.

divider

MISS BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS
Jaynene Jno Lewis

Is it just us or we kinda expect this kind of national costume from this country already? Boring!

divider

MISS JAPAN
Keiko Tsuji

One thing that’s very unique about Japan is that it maintains the strong and fierce aura. We love this. However, this has been worn in MU already. A few changes could have been better.

divider

MISS SWITZERLAND
Zoé Metthez

A gown with the flag! How creative! Duh! Can anyone tell the Swiss ND not to sport this costume again? It’s such a crime to the pageant world! #rollingeyes

divider

MISS KAZAKHSTAN
Aiday Isaeva

Aiday is sporting KINNARIS-Half Woman Half Bird. This one’s a refreshing costume for Kazakhstan. It’s mythically creative. Even thought we don’t think this will stand out, we definitely are digging the concept. Clap! Clap!

divider

MISS ALBANIA
Zhaneta Byberi

This costume is pretty simple. Too bad we still didn’t get a hold of the whole ensemble. Pretty decent, though.

divider

MISS CHINA
Karen Hu Yanliang

We’ve been waiting for China to post at least a sneak peek of her national costume. And we finally get a hold of what’s the costume would probably look like. We still can’t find the whole thing but by the looks of it, this seems cool. We’re still waiting for Karen to post her official NC shots.

divider

MISS NORWAY
Elise Dalby

We respect the cultural heritage this costume represents, but we’re sorry to tell that this is so tedious.

divider

MISS MYANMAR
Sharr Htut Eaindra

Its glamazon vibe just makes us so excited for this costume. We wanna see the finish product of this one.

And here’s the final touch! We’re more than satisfied with how it was done.

divider

MISS UKRAINE
Diana Harkusha

This costume is known as the “War Bride” which compares Ukraine with a young beautiful girl who grieves and mourns for her beloved who died defending their homeland. There’s a great story behind this. Its political stance as it being transformed into a costume is very astounding. We wish there could have been more details to it. But bow down to the initiative.

divider

MISS HAITI
Christie Desir

These are the two options for her national costume which hasn’t been decided yet. If we’re gonna be asked, we’ll go for the hay-like skirt because it looks convivial and seems pretty pleasing.

divider

MISS USA
Nia Sanchez

The whole ensemble is a shocker! Great artistry going on in there! Love it! Love it!.

divider

MISS GUYANA
Niketa Barker

Niketa looks categorically stunning wearing this costume and we would like to thank her for reaching out to her fans and posting a video of her fitting. The costume compliments her beauty very well. We love the embellishments, but we’re not digging the tail–it seems off and lacks creativity. Watch this video Niketa posted in Youtube. (Credit goes to the Niketa Barker herself.)

Here’s the official photoshoot of the whole ensemble and we’re digging it!

MISS CANADA
Chanel Beckenlehner

Chanel is putting much effort on creating a great masterpiece for her national costume. It’s so cool to know she’s hands-on in deciding what she wants to wear and convey in her costume (with of course the help of her designer). Watch a video she posted in her Facebook page by clicking the link below. (Credit goes to Chanel Beckenlehner herself.)

https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=570603159750903&set=vb.412305422247345&type=3&video_source=pages_video_set

And here’s what Chanel and her designer have already thought of.

“The concept for the costume is to pay respect to the sport of Ice Hockey. It truly is a sport that defines Canada. All across the country, on frozen backyard ponds, community rinks and in state-of-the-art arenas, Canadians are playing this national winter sport. It is one of our most celebrated pastimes! “

MISS GREAT BRITAIN
Grace Levy

Though Grace’s national costume is way too plain and simple, we applaud her for personally choosing her inspiration and for being hands-on in the production. We always love girls with great personalities.

divider

MISS HONDURAS
Gabriela Ordoñez

The shape of the whole costume looks dicey, but there’s more to it that’s why we like it. It registers historical emblem of Honduras and its touch is just perfect. We’re digging it!

MISS CURACAO
Laurien Angelista

Everything is explained in there. Read the details.

MISS SPAIN

MISS VENEZUELA
Migbellis Castellanos

There you go girlies! This is the final look of Miss Venezuela’s national costume inspired from the country’s national tree. What do you guys think?

divider

MISS COSTA RICA
Karina Ramos

Costa Rica isn’t investing much on the national costume this time around. Here’s Kary Ramos’s. But this is actually facing a great controversy as Costa Rican’s are furious about the use of the country’s flag and emblem.

divider

MISS CHILE
Hellen Marlene Toncio

We pay respect to the effort and the message that it conveys or what it represents, but we think this is ridiculously-looking costume.

MISS EL SALVADOR
Patricia Murillo

Countries are obvisouly stepping it up! National costume are way way better than before. Here’s Miss El Salvador’s.

MISS FRANCE
Camille Cerf

This is thus far one of the most great-looking national costumes of Miss France over the past years. The whole ensemble is just perfect. Thanks a million Camille Cerf, Miss France 2015 for the update!

MISS TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO

MISS UKRAINE
Diana Harkusha

Here’s the official national costume of Miss Czech Republic Gabriela Franková. The avant-gardé vibe seems promising…hmmm..
