Miss BVI 2014 Jaynene Jno Lewis is not allowing herself to be distracted by the naysayers as she moves full pace ahead in her reign and is continuing to embark on initiatives to positively impact youths of the Virgin Islands.
Even prior to her being crowned queen of the pageant held during the Emancipation Festival season Ms Jno Lewis has been a familiar face, voice and character among the facilitators and Youth of the East End/Long Look Youth Empowerment Programme (YEP) and the Project Lion Heart, a programme for young men.

While she continues on those beats she has approached the Rotary Club of Tortola for their support of a new initiative that will be unique. It seeks to raise funds to kick-start her recognition programme. She is currently organizing a 5km run/walk, not of the usual style but one with a difference.

Persons will run or walk and have a party/social gathering at several strategic points along a significant stretch of Tortola’s main road. “There will be a number of bands at strategic points along the route, not on trucks but set up stationary,” she told Rotarians at The Moorings on Thursday August 28, 2014.

The plans for this event are still in the infancy stages as several details are being formalized. This will be the event that will see her collaborating strongly with a number of institutions and agencies including the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF).

Part of her mission will be to influence a behaviour change among youths especially when it comes to their mode of dress, something she feels strongly about as the way one dresses sends various messages.

“I am looking forward to working with the armed forces, and also the police force here in the BVI and, in addition, with LIME, to educate on provocative clothing and why we should let our young people do better at wearing clothing,” Jno-Lewis said.

She firmly believes that tackling the issue of self esteem is key in the process as in most cases it has a lot to do with how one presents himself/herself in society. She will also be making representation on domestic and other forms of violence prevalent in communities.
