Andy Cohen Declines Hosting Stint
Miss Universe co-host for the last two years, Bravo exec and an openly gay, Andy Cohen announced that he will not be hosting this year’s Miss Universe pageant in Moscow, Russia on November 9.
“Watch What Happens Live” host turned down the event because of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s “discriminatory policies making it unsafe for the gays who live there and the gays coming to work or visit.”
He is referring to Russia’s Anti-Gay Law banning the “propaganda of nontraditional sexual relations to minors” which includes bans on gay pride parades in Moscow and other cities, hefty fines to gay rights groups accused of acting as a “foreign agent”, denial to nongovernmental organizations, and regional laws banning the propaganda of homosexuality to minors.
“I didn’t feel right as a gay man stepping foot into Russia”, says Andy during his chat with E! News host Giuliana Rancic, who happens to be the co-host of Andy Cohen for the last two years.
The boycotting of the pageant is not an all-alone fight for Andy. Francesco Pascuzzi, a gay fan from New Jersey led a petition asking/urging Miss Universe Organization to change the venue of the pageant. As of today, he has had 20,000 signatures on Change.org. hoping that this will convince Donald Trump to consider the situation.
